Did you know? Dust mites are micro-organisms similar to spiders which live in your homes. They thrive in warm and damp conditions at temperatures of up to 28 C. They are mostly found in household dust especially in rugs, carpets, mattresses and soft toys. However, don’t let this scare you because these items actually protect you from circulating house dust by actually attracting it. If you do not have items like these in your home the dust will not have anywhere to settle and you will breath it in. This is exactly how you develop allergies.
Dust mites collect on clothes and cannot be destroyed if washed at temperatures lower than 60 C (this also applies to soft toys). Dust mites do not like extreme temperatures (cold or hot) so you should clean and air your rooms on a regular basis.
Medical experts say that if you are allergic to dust mites then you may develop allergies to animal hair, especially cats. Cats are dirtier than dogs so they have a higher presence of dust mites.

What are allergies?
Allergies are how your body reacts to foreign bodies. The best way to protect yourself against allergies is to avoid dust and pollen, or at least try and reduce the level of dust and micro-organisms around you. This can be achieved by maintaining regular hygiene (cleaning your home or business premises, vacuum cleaning and regular cleaning of carpets and fabrics).
